If you ever walk into any Greendot outlet, you probably see a wall covered with this particular wallpaper. Perhaps some of you might be wondering what is the reason for putting up this particular wallpaper filled with Chinese writings and in some extent, associated with buddhism. This words on the wallpaper are actually a verse taken from the book “弟子规”, when translated to English, it means “Standards for being a good pupil and child”. It was written in the Qing Dynasty during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor by Li Yuxiu. The book is based on the ancient teaching of the Chinese philosopher Confucius that emphasises the basic requisites for being a good person and guidelines for living in harmony with others.
To us, it is not just about providing good food for our customers; but also an environment with positive vibes and message to inspire them. We believe that everyone is born with a pure and good heart. However, due to the unpleasant experiences and challenges we go through in our lives, we somehow lost part of our goodness. Using our outlets as a medium to spread this positivity and teachings, we hope that this particular verse from the“弟子规” can serve as a constant reminder to ourselves, to realize our inherent good nature, to live with the right values and to do good to the people around us.
