Caring Starts from Caring for Yourself

Caring Starts from Caring for Yourself

There is one thing that caused me great sadness and anguish during my journey of growing the business and I can’t control it. That is to see these aunties and uncles who are like my parents, aging gradually and have the mindset that aging means becoming frail and inactive.

This is Auntie Ah Wan, she has been in our company for 6 years now, starting all the way from when we were at Temasek Polytechnic. Before this, she told me she always have difficulty squatting down, and I think this is a very common problems for the elderly. Last year, Auntie Mabel told me that our aunties are having a hard time cutting vegetables. Their hands are in pain. I felt it.

So, besides finding a way to resolve the solution through technology (long term), I also had to find a short term solution. Thus, I have been actively trying to learn from trainer some exercise that are good for hands and shoulders. I then started to teach the uncles and aunties some simple hand exercise to loosen their muscles so that it is not so stiff.

One day, when I was at the outlet, Auntie Ah Wan demonstrated this movement to me. When I saw this scene, I was so touched because I saw that she started to have faith in her own health and believe that her health is within her ntrol regardless of her age. The first step to caring to to start caring for your body. That is why, we try to have a simple morning stretching exercises at our outlets, to remind our staff, that taking care of your body can be very simple.

Take good care of your body and mind. Eat well, rest well, and stay positive!
